Little Details

Trench: H&M / Blouse: H&M / Skirt: Boutique / Shoes: Report Signature (DSW)

I feel so sharp in this trench coat from H&M. It's such a timeless, classic piece. I've been lusting for one for quite some time, and I instantly fell in love with this one. It has a gold sheen about it and I absolutely love the little details.

Review: Topshop Heights Sandals

Today I'm going to be talking about my favorite summer shoes: the Topshop Heights double strap sandals. When I bought these babies, I was just coming off a shopping cart that had Birkenstocks in them. I was overjoyed to discover that they would cost me a third of the price of the Birks I chose!

These are known as the "ugliest shoe" in the world. My family and friends disapproved of my purchase, but I quickly converted them when I first wore them. The white leather makes the sandal chic, though very hard to break in. I got so many blisters when I wore them to my internship with palazzo pants and a camisole, so a CVS trip for blister bandaids and gel inserts was in order.

Overall, despite the issues breaking them in, these are my favorite shoes at the minute and I hope that I can work them into my fall wardrobe with high waisted black jeans, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket.

Here are some photos of my well worn in pair.

Palazzo Pants & Birkenstocks

Pants: H&M / Top: H&M / Shoes: Topshop / Bag: Zara / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

When I first wore these incredible trousers from H&M out in public, I got so many compliments from complete strangers! One man said they were the best pants of the day. They go perfectly with my Topshop Birkenstock dupes, which are my new favorite shoes. I will hopefully be doing a review on them soon so stay tuned!

Skincare Routine

Skin Care Routine

Skin Care Routine by theleatherlook

Recently, my skin has felt and looked absolute rubbish. I decided I needed to make a change in my life and invest in some high quality skincare products that would work rather than going to CVS and buying a $3 bottle that didn't do anything for me.

I headed over to Origins and Lush and consulted with the sales girls, who were absolutely lovely and so helpful, and developed a personalized skincare routine that I know works.

I have rather oily skin that is prone to breakouts, so once a week (or twice if need be) I apply the Origins Clear Improvement charcoal mask for ten minutes. It's like a vacuum for your skin and leaves it feelings soft and smooth. I found that it also helps calm my breakouts, minimize my pores, and rid of excess oil and dirt.

If my skin needs a pick me up during the week, I use the Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser. This gets rid of oil and dirt that build up during the week while also moisturizing my skin. Because it is a scrub, I make sure to use it more on my breakout and oily zones, which in my case is my t-zone and the sides of my nose.

After Origins, I went over to Lush to get some acne treatment products. I stumbled across Lush's Tea Tree Water, which I now use daily. I spray it all over my skin at different angles - two to four sprays usually does the trick.

Last thing I'm going to talk about is magic in a bottle (for me, at least). Lush's Grease Lightning tea tree cleanser has helped my breakouts so much! At first, I got a sample of it, but I later went back to get the full size bottle. I treat it like a mask - half a pump covers my whole face. Since it dries clear, I wear it during the day as well as the night.

I hope this helps some of you out!

How to Style: Midi Skirts

One of the items that I've been loving this August is the midi skirt. I haven't been able to find one that suits me, since I'm only about 5 feet 2 inches tall... However, I can live through Polyvore, right?

Some items that I love to pair with midi skirts are:
Crop tops
Interesting flats
Heeled sandals
Chokers
Statement bags
Fun sunglasses

Check out these sets below that I made on my Polyvore styling various midi skirts :)

Jacquard

Jacket: H&M / Top: H&M / Skirt: Boutique / Shoes: Bank Fashion

I was gifted this skirt and just had to include it in my latest OOTD post! I love the golden jacquard print and pleated, high waisted style. I teamed it with my H&M leather jacket (which looks almost exactly like my favorite Burberry leather jacket and I got on sale!).

This outfit will definitely be well loved in the fall. I'm so excited to layer up again and put on chunky sweaters :) Sweater weather is better weather.

What's in my Dream Bag

Untitled #9036

Untitled #9036 by theleatherlook

I was playing around with Polyvore (if any of you have one you'll know what I mean here) and somehow this set came to life! I know that all of these things would never fit into one bag, but these are items that I would swap in and out of my "dream bag." To give you an idea of what I would use to carry around these things, I chose the Hermès Birkin in black leather. It could easily fit the majority of what I chose to put in this set. Here are some of my "dream essentials!"

  1. Journals and Planners - I have an obsession with journals, so I chose a few of my favorites to put in my dream bag. From Moleskine to Cotton On to Smythson, these journals are organizational essentials (and super cute)!
  2. Wallet - Chanel, of course. I love the classic quilted lines and simplicity of it.
  3. Makeup - I chose to fill my dream bag with the Naked 3 palette, Topshop makeup, Stila foundation and concealer, Urban Decay mascara, Marc Jacobs Daisy rollerball perfume, and some other bits and bobs. Even though I don't wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis, it's good to have in any bag as well as skincare, lotions, lip balms, and hair products.
  4. Portfolio and Laptop - Carrying around a portfolio and laptop allows me to keep my school and work organized (if you can't tell already, I loved being organized).
  5. Pouches and Cases - I love pouches! More organization! To carry makeup, hair bits, phones, passports, glasses, whatever I need. I find the Ted Baker ones to be so gorgeous.

Stripes

At the minute, I am obsessed with all things stripes. Striped dresses, tees, shorts, coats... everything! Here are a few of my favorite Polyvore sets in which I style striped pieces. Which is your favorite?
